Activity

Below is a suggested activity for use with partners, including OPDs, which complements the section content. It’s expected that you will have covered the content in advance, adjusting the delivery and level of detail to the audience.

Instructions

Share the list of key questions for stigma analysis (either as a handout, or on the wall as a flipchart). Together, prioritise the most relevant questions for your project and context. You can use sticky notes.

Discuss the data you already have available, and decide:

  1. Whether you have enough information already to decide if stigma is a key barrier, and therefore needs to be addressed
  2. Where the gaps are in the body of evidence
  3. What you will need to address those gaps and at what stage. For example, more consultation with different groups, reaching out to others that might have expertise in this area, or planning for some additional research

Learning outcomes

  1. Participants will have reflected on the key questions to answer for understanding stigma in their context
  2. Partners will have started deciding where they have adequate data, and where there are gaps to address

In this section, you have:

  • Understood the importance of allocating dedicated planning time to understand stigma and discrimination, and what it means in your context
  • Identified if you or your partners would benefit from additional technical support on stigma (for example, Sightsavers head office or another NGO that works on stigma)
  • Decided on whether stigma is a priority to address
  • Started building stigma reduction into your theory of change
  • Reflected on why a prioritisation process is important
