Activity

Below is a suggested activity for use with partners, including OPDs, which complements the section content. It’s expected that you will have covered the content in advance, adjusting the delivery and level of detail to the audience.

Instructions

Allocate time in a meeting to discuss what everyone understands by the terms ‘stigma and discrimination’.

  1. Introduce the idea of four types of stigma this may be new to some people.
  2. Use flipcharts and invite people to draw or write keywords that explain what each type of stigma looks like, feels like and sounds like in their project setting.
  3. Discuss their presentations, clarify any issues, and explore any variation in use of language and terms.
  4. Later, if there is work conducted on stigma, this can be a good reference point for a shared understanding and use of terms.

Learning outcomes

Participants will have:

  1. Considered the four types of stigma
  2. Discussed what that means in practice in their project settings
