Activity

Below is a suggested activity for use with partners, including OPDs, which complements the section content. It’s expected that you will have covered the content in advance, adjusting the delivery and level of detail to the audience.

Instructions

Ask participants to think of a time they have wanted to change their behaviour.
For example, ‘to do more exercise’, or ‘spend less time on their phone’.

Discuss the following:

  1. How easy was it to do?
  2. What other things – such as their friends, family or social factors – affected their ability to change their behaviour?
  3. Reflect briefly on what that means if we want to change stigmatising behaviour.
  4. As well as knowledge, what else do you need to think about?

Learning outcomes

Participants will have:

  1. Considered actors needed for individual behaviour change
  2. Reflected on learning from this personal example about factors to address when targeting stigma reduction

In this section, you have:

  • Familiarised yourself with the overview of the guidance and key sections
  • Understood the basics of the social behaviour change approach that informs the guidance
  • Reflected and understood the three key principles that underpin the guidance
